Install Oracle 8i on a Windows P4 system
Problem:
Due to a known issue with the Pentium 4 CPU and the JIT used in Oracle 8i, Oracle fails to install on Pentium 4 processors. Workaround:Copy all the contents of the \install directory from Oracle Install CD to a temporary directory on your harddisk.Search for all copies of the 'symcjit.dll' file (Start>>Search>>Files and folders), and rename them to symcjit.old'.Go to the \install directory on your hard disk and open the 'oraparam.ini' file for editing (file is write-protected).
Change the JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS parameter to: 
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m Save the oraparam.ini file. 
Start the modified installation from your hard disk.

p4上安装oracle 8是有问题的！但解决的办法很简单。搜索oralce安装文件，把文件symcjit.dll改为symcjit.old就可以啦。。

我感觉oracle9i启动后好象比8i占用的内存还少一点？

如果是oracle8.1.6版的,是有问题,点了setup后没反应,
P4主板的pc机因为无法运行java安装引导程序，所以无法安装oracle,解决办法如
下：
1、将光盘的所有文件拷贝到硬盘；
2、找到STAGE\Components\oracle.swd.jre\1.1.7.24\1
\DataFiles\Expanded\jre\win32\bin\symcjit.dll文件，将起改名（比如
symcjitbak.dll)
3、从硬盘启动安装程序
