I passed the certification exam yesterday .Thanks to all who helped me . Special thanks to Marcus for the motivation,Roseanne ,Bill , Jim ,Paul for clearing my doubts . I got 71% and would have been much happier getting more but don't mind it much as I have no software background ,experience what soever .I studied for about two months & followed M&R .Its a very good book & one can get you very good score following that thoroughly. I faired very badly in assignment operators in all other fields the score was pretty good .Marcus tutorials & mock exams are very good for last minute brushing up .I found rules round up also very good for making the basics clear .
For those who are preparing for the exam I got around 5-6 questions in IO so don't leave that out . Thanks once again to all.

I'm poor in English, but hope all of you can understand that I really appreciate all the way the helps from you, especially Mdm Zhang's great notes, this great discussion group ... the helps from all of you make my dream come true! I was very nervous the day before the test date, and almost sleepless the whole night. but the questions come out are simple than I imaged. I tested the mock exam from the Jtips.net just the day before real exam, that one is really hard. I got 61%, and 71% in 2 mock exams which made me more nervous. my average score on mock exam is 80 something. I got 90%,88%,73% in Marcus's mock exam. not so many thread and IO questions as those ancestor mentioned, and they're not difficult nor tricky. lot of foundamental questions. I finished right after 1 hr, and start to review in next 1 hr and I corrected 4 questions! (careless is my weakness). also not so many codes snippets, and they're short (average 10-20) not like those in Jtips.net. I would say most of the mock exam are harder and more tricky than the real one, and I'm really lucky because I'm not very sure about 2-3 answers, I guess it use most of my IQ(or EQ?), but they're all correct! amazing! I started the study from last Nov, I have a few years programming experience but not in OO. I hope all these garrulous words are helps. forgive me maybe they're not in order. Thanks again! I have just passed SCJP2 exam and I got 96% !. I have been regularly participating in different forums/egroups for SCJP2 and I got great help from friends like you. I really feel proud to be part of such forums. Also it would be selfish of me, if I don't help others by sharing my experience with them. I hope you are aware of the revision of the pattern of SCJP2. During my study period I came across enormous number of websites for mock exams/test engines. The latest pattern is available at http://suned.sun.com/USA/certification/java_news_faq.html. I think jchq (www.jchq.net) and JavaRanch (www.javaranch.com )are the two best sites for mock exams and discussions. The 3 mock exams at jchq are really useful to evaluate performance. But once the pattern is changed, there comes a need to update the exams based on the latest pattern. To some extent this has been done, but not very satisfactorily. The best book in my knowledge for preparation is Java2 Certification Study Guide (by robert, heller and ernest). One thing I have noticed during last few months is people like me end up wasting a lot of time in searching for the resources. Towards that end, the best help one gets is from the Test Simulation Engines. It not only helps save your time but also give you better feel of the actual exam. There are many Simulation engines available on the net like jcertify, j@whiz, jqplus. I tried all but I found j@whiz (www.whizlabs.com/jwhiz) most useful. To my knowledge it has the largest collection of questions and the best thing is the pattern is very much updated and the interface simulation is great. It would be great if some one could help me updating my knowledge about various resources available for SCJP2. I am sure the above info will be of help to you. Thanks and regards

mock exams: most of them as listed in maha anna's list but the pretty good indicators of real exam are:
marcus's 3 exams and bill's exam I scored 93,92,92 res in marcus's exam..It gave me lot of confidance.I reserved them for last 2 weeks. I started my exam prep on 20 th of nov and appeared on 20 th of march. my advice: 1. concentrate on fundamentals
2. try as many code snippets as you can.I wrote hundreds of snippets to understand the concepts.Make small changes in the same code and study the behavior. It helps a lot
3. solve the standard mock exams (not all ..)
4. keep u r self extremely cool at exam.read question throughly.Most imp ..read answers first
5. the question if u can not answer it imme. do not spend time thinking.comple all the questions first and then review.
5. I got around 70 % code snippets in exam.around 7 on threads(tricky ones),4-5 on IO(simple..constructors),3-4 on collections API.lots on inner class,overloading,overridding.
I had completed exam 28 mins before time so could review al the questions and corrected one ans(from wrong to right!!)

Just passed the Java 2 exam with 86%. I really thank everyone in this discussion group, especially nitin's never ending questions! I was planning to take the exam next week but I got a job offer last week. So, I decided to get it over with. The exam was much easier than I expected! I would say if you have bought JQ+ or something, you are already ahead of the exam. Or you may want to take the mock exams available on the internet. Some of them are free (go check maha anna's site). I started to read Deitel and Deitel last year (April) but I stopped in May because I got a job offer (Had to come back to the States cause I have separated from my wife for 4 years!). Then I restarted my study in January when my wife came over to AR from NY. I did not have much time to study at the beginning but then I started to study real hard from Mid January. While I was studying I still needed to teach 9 credit hours a week and to prepare for the lecture notes for one new course (not to mention I just got my driver's license this Monday! Yeah, I am from a big city where no one really wants or needs to drive!). I would say if you study for 1.5 - 2.5 months really really hard, you should clear it with no difficulty. By the way, in the past 6 years I hardly did any real programming. Of course, you need to have a bit of talent and luck too. Good luck! I got 100% on Declarations/access control, Langugage fundamentals, OO, java.util, and java.io. But 0% on gc, java.lang. I think I had one stupid question on cos which I never read anyway (I am not a physical scientist so don't care about cosine or other trigo function at all). Plus my memory is getting bad because of my age. Many questions were on access control, OO, fundamentals (total 60-65% out of the entire exam). IO questions are simple (need to know chaining of streams and constructors of streams). I think I had around 4-6. Also, 4 on AWT, I had many Thread questions (some of them are difficult), around 7. I have a very good offer in insurance (better than my current one and many IT jobs), so probably I will stay in my own field unless something bad happens. I would suppose Oracle is easier than Java. Don't miss XML though if you still have faith on the NET! Some people had bad comments about XML. I, on the other hand, believe in XML 100%. In fact, I was planning to clear XML and PL/SQL after Java. But too late. Maybe in my next life. But who knows? My final advice is to stick with Mughal and "reasonable" mock exams. Some mock exams are really too tough. Go to maha anna. Its comments about the difficulty level of the real exam as compared to the mock exams are fair!! Art
