datatime类型问题，我判断datatime类型的列数值范围

今天用sql server查询分析器，查询birthday列（类型为datatime)
用 select * from table where birthday between 1988-1-1 and 1995-1-1查不出结果，不知道datatime类型的怎么进行查询，查询出指定范围

select * from table where birthday between '1988-1-1' and '1995-1-1'

datatime类型在查询时 等同于varchar
所以使用''来包含select * from table where birthday between '1988-1-1' and '1995-1-1'
