Set the environment variable JAVA_HOME to $ORACLE_HOME/JRE and then try. If the problem continues, then you may be encountering bug 1293534 (for 64-bit 8.1.6 on solaris), which causes dbassist to fail when the LANG is set either to korean or UTF8. It also generates core at $ORACLE_HOME/assistant/dbca/jlib. This is fixed in 8.1.7(64 bit). Kindly confirm if this is same with your case, so that a backport request can be made for a fix in 8.1.6
check if a trace file was generated on the server at failure time. Existence of a trace file may suggest an Oracle internal error that requires the assistance of customer support.
