从数据库读取日期问题

数据库里存的是时间字段，（日期+时间），我想读取它的日期，不要时间，怎么写比如：         select distinct 日期函数（时间字段）from a where 时间字段〉‘2005-9-1' and 时间字段 < ‘2005-9-20'
       要实现上述结果怎么写语句，急
