做了BMP to GIF的共享软件会不会引起GIF格式的版权纠纷？

GIF is a service  owned by Compuserve and the GIF format is a
Compuserve proprietary image format, which they let people use freely.
Unisys owns the patent on the LZW compression technique used in the GIF
format. Compuserve now has to pay Unisys royalties for it's use along
with everyone else who uses LZW.

象你这么小的程序恐怕UNISYS不会找你麻烦的，但我不是律师，谁知道呢

其实我对我的软件很有信心，很可能在国外一发布就会引起轰动，到时候UNISYS找我麻烦我就完了。GIF格式不是Compuserve公司的吗？
还有能不能让其公司授权于我？

我觉得这种软件你最好别做
程序本身上没有什么难度
不过那个unisys不会授权给
小公司，更不要说是个人

那我不是完了，多年的心血，眼看就要发布了，却遇到了这种麻烦。
国外好象转换GIF格式的软件很多，难道他们都得到UNISYS的授权吗？？

那这个好像确实需要它的授权，而且png格式好像就是因为这个而产生的。
